Lions Tree Day Information

National Treeday

National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree planting event!

National Tree Day is a great opportunity for Lions Clubs to interact with the local community and beautify nearby surroundings.

In 2008 take the opportunity to plant a seedling to remember someone who has passed away in your club. Or why not plant a tree to acknowledge a volunteer or senior citizen who has contributed to your local community?

Lions clubs can register their own tree planting site or provide assistance on the day to a local site in their area.

It's easy to get involved, just follow these steps....

1. Find a site - The first thing you need to do is find a location suitable for tree planting. This can be at a local park, school, creek, on the roadside or in local bushland. Please ensure you get permission to plant there.

2. Nominate a Site Coordinator - Each registered site needs a Site Coordinator. This is someone who is willing to oversee preparation of the day and manage the site on National Tree Day.

3. Register - To register your site call the National Tree Day Hotline on 1800 88 5000 or register online at http://treeday.planetark.com/

4. Approach your local council for help - Contact your local Mayor and ask for his/her assistance. Planet Ark is writing to all Mayors asking them to donate seedlings and provide support to Site Coordinators.

5. Can't register a site but still want to get involved? - why not organise a barbeque for your local tree planting site or get involved in Schools Tree Day by supporting a participating educational institution? Call 1300 88 5000 for details of sites in your area.

Remember:
